Christchurch, last night. The employees of tho Kaiapoi Woollen Company’s town factory discontinued work this morning, as a protest against the action of the new Jewish manager in dismissing summarily Banks, foreman of the coat department. The employees state that Banks was dismissed to allow of tbs introduction of the team system of work, also that his successor iB a Jew. Mr Solo : mon, the manager, states that Banks was dismissed because he was incompetent. The question of his successor and the introduction of the team system had nothing to do with the trouble. A conference is now proceeding between the directors of the company and representatives of the employees. A sensation has been caused in the city by the strike. 'jyAt 11 o’clock a deputation of employees, waited on the directors. Mr Blackwell, the chairman, informed the deputation that they had a proper channel. It was for the Union Executive to make complaint. He quoted the provisions of the Act regarding strikes, and declined to discuss the reason of Banks’ dismissal xfia deputation withdrew, and adyife-d iha workers to resume work, which the? did,.
