Crusader was imported from India by A. McLean, Esq., o£ Hawke’s Bay, and is considered one ot the highest caste Arab stallions ever imported into tho Australasian colonies. Tho Australasian says: “ This is certainly the most beautiful Arab horse aver imported. He stands over Id hands, and has immense bone, with plenty of substance and quality all over. He is acknowledged to be the very best Arab that ever ran in India, a proof of that being that at one meeting in Calcutta he had no less than throe walk-overs, the Indian Herald remarking, ‘ No owner caring to start against the great Crusader at weight-for-age, the Desort Plate, distance two miles, resulted in a walk-over. Crusader won the Dehra Derby, Umballa Derby, Desert Stakes, Asian Plate, Madras Derby, and many other races. After .racing in India for five years, at all distances, I under big weights, Crusader retired from the j turf with an unbeaten record.” Saracen is a blood bay with black points, standing 15 | hands 3 inches, with plenty of bone and substanoe. He is very quiet and good-tem-pored, and from the stoutness of his breeding his progeny are certain to be most valuable oithor for hacks, hunters, or carriage horses.
