SPRING MEETING. NOTES AND ANTICIPATIONS,

Tiio Poverty Bay Turf Club inaugurate their spring meeting at tho Makar&ka racecourse to-day, aud favored with fine weather there should bo a largo at-tond-aucc. Capital acceptances have been received, and some first class racing can be expected. Mr Henry Piper will wield the starter's so thero should bo no cause for complaint on that scoro. Mr E. L. Maude, the newly-appointed secretary, enters upon his duties at tho presont meoting, and tho handicapping is the first done by Mr Chadwick since his appointment as haudicuppor to the Club. Trains leave Gisbotno for Makaraka at 9 a.m., 12 noon, and 1.15 p.m. The first race is timed tu start ut 12.45 p.m. The following are the acceptances and my anticipations:—
