The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Agout-General, dated London, October 26: —“Mutton market dull and unsettled. There is an inclination on the part of holders to force sales. The slackness of demand is due to continual cheapness of br.ef. The average price to-day of Canterbury brand is from 4d to 4 1-Sd, Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Company 3;,d, South Island brands 6:]d. No alteration in the lamb market since last week. The beef markot is dull. Quotations for New Zealand are onlv nominal. Hind quarters are at 8 7-Bd, fores 2-id. The butter market is firm. Choicest Danish is at 120 s ; New Zealand is slow of sale at 1925. The choicest first new season’s Australian is 108 s per cwt. Cheese : The spot market is steady at quotations cabled last week. Buyers are cautious, aud the demand is very limited. The hemp market is quiet. The price of good fair Wellington on spot is nominally £32 per ton ; October to December shipments, £3l to £3l 10s. The cocksfoot market is firm ; little business is doing. The average price of bright, clean New Zealand seed, weighing 17ibs per bushel, on spot, is 50s per cwt.”
