FIRE INSURANCE BILL

The Premier has intimated by wire to the Secretary of the Farmors’ Union that the Government had decided to take up the Mutual Fire Insurance Bill introduced by Mr M. Kirkbridge. The passage of the Bill through the House is assured.
SWIMMING AND SUBSIDIES-

The New Zealand Amateur Swimmiug Association, which has its headquarters in Christchurch, has issued a circular to affiliated Clubs, asking them to use their influence to have a readjustment of the Government subsidy, ‘l'his Association has 23 clubs, with bettveou 2000 and 3000 members connected with it, and the Auckland Association, which secede from the other, oomprisos ouly one club, yet both Assooittions receive the sumo, namely, £SO. It is not asked that the granVto the Auckland Association should be reduced, out that the grant to tho larger Association bo inorouseil. Tho Canterbury oentre of the Association has decided to bring the matter under the attention of local members of Parliament.
