WHITE UNSKILLED LABOR.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Oopyrigh

Reoeived 11.3 p.m., Oct. 20. Capetown, Oct. 20. Mr Oresswell, manager of the Village Main Reef Gold Mine at Johannesburg, recently engaged white unskilled labor at ten shillings per day. The experiment proved successful Mr Oresswell informed the Rand Labor Commissioners that the chairman of his London board had privately written to him that Wornher Beit and others had been consulted on the matter, but they feared to engage a large number. White laborers on the Rand would cause the same troubles which prevailed in Australia, and would enable a combination of labor to diotate wages, and also cause trouble politically when responsible government was granted. The statement caused a great sensation. Sir George Farrer failed to make Mr Oresswell admit that the letter was read for political purposes.
