NELSON HARBOR WORKS
Per Press Association. Nelson, last night,
A special meeting of the Nelson Harbor Board on Saturday resolved that in view of the adoption of amended plans and specifications as recommonded by Messrs Williams and Eawson, consulting engineers, the Board is unable to proceed with Mr Leslie Beynolds’ plans. They asked him, however, if he was willing to continue supervising the construction of the amended scheme, and no reply has been received from Mr Beynolds yet. Action was deferred until November 2nd, when a definite appointment will probably be made. The Board decided to immediately proceed with the cutting of a channel through the Boulder Bank with day labor with the funds in hand, leaving the question of an additional loan of £35,000 and extended construction of moles by contract until the channel was cut and ascertained, f then necessary. Mr Barrowmann was appointed foreman, and Mr Bruce (Dunedin) dredgemaster and dredge engineer combided, both on salaries of £5 a week. It is expected that a start will be made with the cutting of the channel in the course of a few weeks.
