JOHN F. SHERIDAN COMPANY.
To-night the popular comedian, John F. SheridaD, and his brilliant company of twenty-five artists, including the Criterion corps of nine lady dancers, and the midget comedian, “ Little Gulliver,” will present the comical operaticai musical comedy, “ The Lady Slavey.” The plot of ‘‘The Slavey ” i 3 very interesting. The essentials.in the storey are an impecunious Irish landowner, Major O’Neill, his two daughters, Maudie and Beatrice, to the successful marriage of whom (or either) he looks as a means of restoring his fortunes ;
an American millionaire, to whom he desires to marry either of tbe daughters ; a sherrifffs bailiff Roberts and his assistant, Captain Fitzmaurics, who are put in possession of the Major’s house by hardhearted English creditors ; Flo Honeydew, of the Empire Theatre, who threatene the matrimonial schemes of the poor Major, and the aspirations of his daughters ; Lord Lavender, who is the devoted admirer of Miss Flo; and then the Lady Slavey, Phyllis, who is the yoluntary Cinderella of the O’Neill family, having assumed cap and apron when her father’s fortune failed, so that the world would not view a ser vantless O’Neill menage. Tho millionaire loves the little Slavey beo.aqse of her personal charm, not knowing that she is the Major’s daughter, and she loves him in return, but with a remarkable inconsistency refuses him because he is a millionaire. Then the millionaire plots that Roberts' the bailiff, shall represent him, and- that he (the millionaire) shall .pose as a poor secretary, and finding that ho is not able to endow her enormously with worldly goods, Miss 3j?hil\is succumbs. Such is the crqsof the plot, but much of the fun comes from the fact that Major O’Neill does, not want the millionaire to know of his poverty, and so puts the bailiffs into livery and converts his persistent duns, male and female, into guests. Of course everything ends happily. The music in “The Lady Slavey” is by John Crook and Fred. W. Woierfcer. Throughont there is brightness and melody. To-morrow night “ A Trip to Chicago,” will be Btayed, in which Mr Sheridan will appear as Johanna Murphy, the Irish mother-in-law, said to he even more humoroug tffan his better-known “ Widow O.’Brien.” “ Naughty Nancy,” tho latest successful London musical comedy will CQnclude the season on Wednesday night.
