PLYMOUTH, last nightj In the Supreme Court this morning, Isaac Salmon, who pleaded •guilty to arson at Stratford, was released on two years’ probation, and ordered to pay £ll 15s lOd costs .•within six months.
FBILDING, last night. Yesterday afternoon, Charles Harford, a painter working, at Spence’s buildings, fell off a wail about 18ft, and sustained bad cuts to the head. In the Police Court to-day Jeremiah Bowes was charged with indecent assault on a girl five years of age at Aorangi on Sunday evening, and was remanded for seven days. Bail was refused. STRATFORD, last night.
‘Following the inquest on Sunday, Hutton was charged in the Magistrate’s Court this morning with killing O’Shea during a fight on October Ist. Accused was remanded to the 13th inst. on the application of the police, bail being granted, with two sureties of £250, and accused in £250.
WELLINGTON, last night. The Arbitration Court gave judgment in a number of cases this morning. In the case of Phillips v. Seager, a claim on account of loss of an eye while working in a foundry, respondents were ordered to pay ds a week to the claimant. In Anderson v. the Union Steam Ship Company, a claim for impaired sight due to the bursting of a patent light, respondents were ordered to pay 2s weekly. In the case of the Seamen’s Union v the Union Steamship Company, a claim for overtime, the Court held that the master of the vessel had to consider the safety of the ship, and in the present case the safety of the ship was involved. The application was dismissed. TIMARU, last night. The Timaru Presbytery have decided to nominate the Rev. W. Gillies as Moderator of the forthcoming General Assembly. DUNEDIN, last night.
Though the Rev. Mr Gillies, of Tauranga, declined to be nominated the Dunedin Presbytery insisted on his nomination as Moderator of the Assembly.
