EMPIRE’S TRADE.
CONVERTS TO PREFERENTIAL TRADE, KAISER WANTS REPORT OF MR CHAMBERLAIN’S SPEECH. By Telegraph—Press AssociationCopyright. LONDON, Oct. 5. Mr Storey, an ex-ihember of the House of Commons, favoring retaliation, lias quitted the Freetrade party. The changed attitude of the Daily Mail, in ceasing to oppose Mr Cham•berlain, is a striking feature of the fiscal agitation.- ,
The Mail’s recent statement as regards his policy, is apparently intended to explain its change of front. Replying to a correspondent, who enquires whether even fiscal reform of the colonies would permit the Motherland to take over all the food supplies available lor the Empire’s service, Mr Chamberlain said he was sure that on such occasions the colonies would assist the Motherland to the utmost. Mr Chamberlain’s letter referring to colonial foodstuffs referred to war •time. The Kaiser has ordered Mr Chamberlain’s Glasgow speech to-morrow to be telegraphed in full.
