place in the district. Particularly was this activity noticeable on the Coast, where live clubs were in existence, and the game flourished exceedingly. Of,the Coast Clubs, Tokoinaru, Tuparoa, and Tolago Bay became affiliated to this Association and forwarded affiliation fees consetjuenlly, after starting the season 1 with three affiliated clubs, your Association had six clubs under its jurisdiction at the end of the season, and a promise from the YVaipiro Club to come in next season. The affiliation of the Coast Clubs is, we are sure, a matter, for general congratulation, as not only docs it make this ■Association a strong one in the number of affiliated clubs, but it strengthens its representative team by .enabling it to draw on the pick of the many sterling players on the Coast. For the first time in the past eighteen years, an outside representative team - visited Gisborne last season. The team we induced to confer this distinction upon us Was the Hawke’s Bay representative eleven. The match was played at Ormond on February 28th, and resulted in a victory for Poverty Bay (■after a most exciting game) by 43 runs—a result your Association has reason to be proud of when it is remembered that the Hawke’s Bay eleven included A. Id. Troth, the renowned Anglo-Australian professional. Your eleven included Messrs IC. S. Williams 1 J. N. Williams, E. R. Ludbrook, and A. M. Beale, of the Coast, each of whom rendered good service. During the season an East Coast team visited Napier, and defeated the County and United Clubs of that district, while they lost the match against a combined team representing thc Scinde Club. On their return journey, they met and defeated the Poverty Bay representatives on Victoria Domain, on March 21st, by 30 runs. During the season your Association sent an eleven to Tolago Bay to meet the East Coast representatives. The match was played on March 16th, and resulted in a win for the Coast team by 13 runs. Towards the close of the season, the Tolago Bay Club visited Gisborne, playing two matches, in which they defeated the County Club at Ormond and were defeated by a town eleven on Victoria Domain. The usual Town v. Country fixture was played on Victoria Domain on November Ist, and resulted in a win for the Town team by 47 runs. Three te'ams entered for the Saturday competition—viz., County, West End, and United. United defeated County twice and drew once with West End, ” scoring 5 championship points. County defeated United and West End, scoring 4 points. West End drew with United, scoring one point. The West End Club had difficulty early in the season in raising a team for Saturday, and several fixtures fell through in con-

sequence. For the Thursday competition, West End, Kaiti-City, and Whataupoko entered teams. West End carried off the honors with three wins, while each of the other clubs placed a victory to its credit. . During the season your Association became affiliated to the Ifawke’s l Bay Association, and Messrs E. R. Ludbrook and W. Cfibson were chosen to represent;Hawke’s Bay against Lord Hawke’s English Eleven, at Napier. In the absence of the Hon. Treasurer '(Mr D. C. Hawkins), we are unable to lay the balance-sheet before you this evening, but it is satisfactory to know that after paying for heavy expenses in connection with the visit of the Hawke’s .Bay team, rent of Victoria Domain, etc., the Association will commence the coming season with a small credit balance. The affiliation fees of the County and West End Clubs are still outstanding. The thanks of your Association are due to Messrs J. N. Williams and J. Taylor (for guinea subscriptions ito the funds of the Association), to Messrs J 5 W. Nolan and W. Acland Hood (for "presenting bats as trophies), and to gentlemen who assisted as umpires and scorers during the season. The ladies • of Ormond deserve your special thanks for the most hospitable manner in which they entertained both players and spectators at Ormond on the occasion of the Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay reoresentative match. The incoming committee will have for consideration the question of whether ■the district scheme should be continued or whether it would he better to revert to the club system. The question of affiliation with the New Zealand Cricket Council will also engage their attention. During the coming season, your Committee think it would he desirable to- send a team on tour during the midsummer holidays, to either Auckland or

Hawke’s Bay. A return match is due to the East Coast players. The incoming season should be one of the most successful n the history of the Association, and your Committee expresses a hope that all players will do their best to make it such. —W. J. Barlow, Chairman ; W. J. Gibson, Hon. See. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, referred to the satisfactory programme of matches gone through last season. The Association had shown that it could place a strong representative team in the field. Some people, when they heard that, A. E. .Trott was |to •accompany the Hawke’s Bay Eleven to Gisborne,- ridiculed the idea of Ideal players standing up to the renowned professional’s bowling ; but the Poverty Bay players had not only stood up to it, but had deI feated the Hawke’s Bay players. He hoped to see the Association encourage big matches, both by sending teams abroad, and inducing outside teams to visit the district. He ■paid'-a high tribute to the sportsmanlike qualities of the' East Coastplayers, and said he was glad they had won all but. one of their matches on their tour.. He felt sure that if the players only put some enthusiasm into their work the district would yet rake a creditable place in the cricket world. Mr A. Crawford .seconded the adoption of the report, which was firmed. The ~ following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing season ’—President, Mr J. W. Nolan ; vice-presi-dents, Messrs Chas. Evans, W. Acland Hood, W, F. Cederwall, W. I). Lysnar, J. A. Harding, and J. A. A. Caesar; hon. secretary, Mr E. F. Iveson ; hon. treasurer, Mr IT. E. Dod-d ; management committee, secretary 'and treasurer .-and, ope del&gate from each affiliated club. •After several matters had been discussed, it was decided to adjourn the meeting until Saturday, October 17th, when the delegates will meet and make all arrangements for the season,
