FEDERAL POLITICS.

A DISSOLUTION IMMINENT.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrigh: Received 9.56 p.m., Sept. 30. Melbourne, Sept. 30.

Mr Deakin, in reply to a question, said that a cable message just received showed a conference in reference to the Pacific cable would probably be held.

The Speaker, announcing the resignation of Sir E. Barton, said he did not propose to issue the writ to fill the vacancy, as it was almost certain the session-would be ended, and a dissolution become imminent before a successor to Sir E. Barton could be elected. It is a matter of common understanding that a dissolution will take place within four weeks. Mr Deakin refused to be drawn into mentioning the date of the dissolution.
