HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

The monthly meoting of tho above Board was held yestorday afternoon, there being present :—Messrs J. W. Nolan (chairman), Dewing, Harding, Macfarlano, Johnston, Wallis, and Joyco. Messrs Palmer and Co., of Auckland, wrote ro septic tank appliances, which had gained the highest reward at the recent Sanitary Exhibition at Manchester. Mr Mestayor had adopted them for sewerage schemes at Palmerston North.

Mr Mestayer wrote expressing a favorable opinion of the appliances. He was a strong advocate of a septio tank for tho disposal of town sewerage, but hesitated to recommend it for a hospital solely. The large quantities of anti-septics used in a hospital, if allowed to pass into a small tank such as would be required for 40 or 50 persons, would seriously interfere with the normal bacterial action, and might possibly destroy it altogether. The Secretary said that ho wired to Mr Mestayer, saying that the Board had considered the point as to anti septics. Mr Mestayer had also been asked his charge for the preparation of plans, to which tho following telegram was received : “ Twenty-fivo guineas ; Board supplying particulars of site, Am writing to you." The Chairman was of opinion that to get plans from Mr Mestayer would be unnecessary expense.

Mr Wallis thought that the Government plans would be sufficient. It was decided to instal a tank with a capacity of 1500 gallons, or on an average of 30 gallons per patient. It was also resolved to ask the Health Department to submit plans, etc., for the tank.

It was decided to call for tenders for the building of an underground tank of 5000 gallons at the Hospital.

The Wellington Board wrote stating that since other Boards in the colony were not unanimous in asking Parliament for exemption of duty on all drugs imported for the use of Hospitals, that they had decided to tako no further action.

The Auckland Board forwarded resolutions re the Public Health Act Amendment Bill.

Mr M. Ryan, of Auckland, wrote donating £1 Is to the fundsrof the Hospital. The Treasurer’s report showed a credit balance ou August 13th of £204 2s 6d. Members expressed satisfaction at the financial position, and it was resolved to thank all those who had contributed towards assisting the Board to that position.

The monthly report showed that 37 patients had been admitted, and 36 discharged during tbs month. Five had died, and there were twenty patients at present in the institution.
