AN ASSYRIAN BANKRUPT.
GETS NEARLY FOUR THOUSAND POUNDS CREDIT. A PUZZLED ASSIGNEE. By Telegraph—PreßS Association. Wellington, last night. At a moeting of creditors in tho estate of Philip Stephen, an Assyrian who carried on business as draper in the city, it was shown that his indebtedness amounted to £3665, and the assets to £648. Five years ago ho was burned out in Wellington, and received £730 from insurance companies. This he paid to his creditors, and he was theD £3OO to £405 in debt. Three years ago he started business in the city again without capital, and only with goods he brought back from hawking trips in the country. The Official Assignee said it was puzzling to know how bankrupt obtained so much credit. Tho creditors decided that there should bo a public examination of Stephen in Court.
