LIVELY MEETING.
UNIONISTS AND SOCIALISTS. Per Press Association. Auckland, last night. At a meeting of delegates to the Trades and Labor Counoil last evening, the proceedings were of a most lively character. Notice of motion had boon given by Mr Woods, on behalf of tho Moulders’ Union, to alter several rules. The most important alteration proposed was in the rule relating to tho number of delegates to represent tho Unions, and also that “ No delegate to this Council be other than an effective working member of a Union affiliated to the Council.” It was discussion upon that clause that caused the lively proceedings. On the question being finally put 24 voted for tho motion and 18 against, tho majority of the latter being members of tho Socialist party and non-unionists. On tho President declaring the motion carried the uproar broke forth. The President’s ruling was questioned several times, but on appeal being made to the meeting the chair was always upheld. The minority withdrew.
