LOAN PROPOSALS.
(To the Editor Gisborne Times.
Sir, —Permit me to endorse the opinion given in your leading column to-day that the first step to obtaining a proper water and drainage scheme for Gisborne should be in the direction of amalgamation with the suburbs. Had the loan proposals been carried yesterday, with its present population Gisborne would hav6 had a municipal debt of about £4O per head, a record for Australasia, but with the amalgamation of the suburbs a larger scheme could be entertained at a cost of about £2l per head. The advantages of amalgamation have been so often set forth in your columns that there is no necessity l’or mo to enlarge upon the question. I sincerely trust that a public meeting will be called at an early date of the ratepayers of toe three districts to consider the matter, and I feel sure from what I can hear on all sides that all obstacles standing in the way of amalgamation will be overcome. —I am, etc., One of the 324.
