I-lAWERA, last night. > In the police Court this morning the S.M. gave iudgment in the case of Avis v. the Patea County Council, a claim for damages for injuries sustained by plaintiff through his horse shying at timber for a bridge left near the Patea bridge, negligence being alleged against the Council. Judgment was entered up for the plaintiff for LI 19 14s, and cost L 33 9s 3d. The Court was asked to fix the amount of security for an appeal. WELLINGTON, last night. The Wellington Education Board is being threatened with proceedings by a contractor for fencing at the new school recently built at the Hutt for the recovery of L 26 9s 4d, due on the contract. A firm of solicitors has also asked the Board to nominate someone to receive a writ for L 272 8s in respect of a contract for the Epuni School. The Board admits liability, but says it has no funds to meet either claim ; and unless the Government comes to the rescue it will next week figure as defendant in au action in respect of the first-named claim. The pressing claims of the Board total L 2253. Christchurch, last night. Alfred Wright was fined Lo Is this morning on a charge of neglecting to provide a horse with sufficient food.
