tional attraction at the spring or summer meeting of the Wellington Racing Club, the President of the Club cabled on Saturday to Mr G. G. Stead at Sydney : “ Owners agreeable to start Achilles in a £SOO sweepstake with £SOO added by the Wellington Racing Club, and 100 guinea cup, at Wellington on October 23 or January 22, one mile and a-quarter, weight for age, provided Ibex and Cruciform are starters. If you can arrange, suggest also invite Wakeful, Abundance, Treadmill, and Wairiki.” No reply was received from Mr Stead, who left Sydney on Saturday night. Later.—The President of the Wellington Racing Club has been informed from Sydney that the proposal to run a £SOO sweepstake, in which Cruciform, Ibex, and Achilles would part, has been found unworkable.
