[(To the Editor, of .the Times).; Sir, —In order to correct a statement in last night’s Horald that the annual cost of pumping water in Napier is £ISOO, instead of £7OO as stated by me, I would be glad if you would find room for tho following lotter. —I am, etc., W. Dear Sir,—l am sending you a typewritten statement of our waterworks, also a copy of the by-laws relating to the water service. The engine pumps about 55,000 gallons an hour, and can do 60,000. Two men work the engine and feed the boilers at .£3BB per annum. Coal, coke, oil, etc., brings tho cost to £7OO per annum, as stated. The engine works every day, Sunday included, when an extra man is employed at 9s per day. The average hours pumped per month is 212. —Yours faithfully, W. M. Bower, Town Clerk.
