The quantity catalogued to date is 50,383 bales, the quantity sold 40,044 bales. Per Press Association. Wellington, last night. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Agont-Goneral, dated London, 19th inst : —“ Hutton market remains firm. The average price to day of Canterbury brands is 4£d per lb, for Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Company brands, 4 l-8d ; for other North Island brands, 4d ; ewes, 3Jd ; Kiver Plate mutton, 3£d. The lamb market at the close of this week was quiet but rather steadier. The average prices to-day are : Canterbury brands 4 7-Bd, brands other than Canterbury 4§d to 4Jd, tegs 41d. Beef is quiet, but improving, with a better demand. The average price to-day of New Zealand hindquarters is4d to 4 l-Bd. fores 3 5-Sd. The butter market is rising. The average price of choice New Zealand is 98s per'ewt, Danish 109 s, Irish 102 s, Canadian 96s Siberian 89s. The cheese market is advancing steadily. Canadian, on spot is at 64s ; September shipments are quoted at 57s per cwt., c.i.f.. Good business done in hemp, but the market is quiet. The price _ to-day of good, fair Wellington on spot is .£33 per ton, October to December shipment £32. The cocksfoot seed market is steady. The average for bright, clean New Zealand seed, weighing 171 b per bushel, on spot, to-day is 49s per cwt. An active demand for wool continues at the present sale. Tho market is firm, with a hardening tendency.”
