NUHAKA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The weather during the past month has been very favorable for the lambing season, and so far there is every indication of a considerable increase in the various flocks of the district, but a little more feed would bo of great benefit to the ewes ; the pastures are looking green but the growth appears to be very slow. Some of the gardens are now looking gay with spring flowers, and a good display of plum blossoms are to be seen in Mr Shaw’s orchard. The recent dry weather has bad a marked effect on the roads, which have never been so free from mud at this time of the year as they are at-present. The mail contractor, Mr Bedstone, brought the mails from Gisborne to Tarewa in bis four-in-hand buggy on Tuesday last, and nest week wi>l probably drive through to Wairoa. The Tarewa-Morere road is very rough in places, but wheD tbe harrows are used a great impovement will be effected. There will be a considerable reduction in the area of bush felled in the district this season. Several settlers who intended having bush felled have not been able to do so,°owing to tbe scarcity of good axemen, Some of the bush contractors are -king good progress with their work, whilst o£ a « are makiD S very kittle headway.
