THAMES NEWS.
(Per Press Association.) Thames, last night. Phenomenal catches of fish, principally schnapper, have been made in the Hauraki Gulf by Thames fishermen. One boat reports 150 dozen, another 160, and a third a record of 240 dozen splendid fish. They were mostly caught on the new beds, which have greatly improved since trawling operations ceased. The Hinemoa left this afternoon with a lighthouse for Cape Campbell, made at the Tnames, on board. The lighthouse weighs 95 tons, and is 75 feet high, exclusive of the dome, which is not in the local contract. It is tho largest lighthouse built here.
Tho boring scheme, to which public companies subscribed liberally, and to which the Government gavo a substantial subsidy, are now well under way. The first bore is down 200 feet in Bplendid country. Tho second boring machine will arrive in the course of a few days. There is great interest in the operations.
