MATAWHERO STOCK SALE. RECORD PRICES. There was a large attendance at the Matawhero stock sales yesterday, and tho prices realised were a record for tho district. Messrs Williams and Kettle and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile report;—

There was an excellent yarding, consisting of 3500 sheep and 450 head of cattle. Messrs Wyllio and Bright took their usual rotation, Mr Wyllie opening with a line of 15 hoggets, which made 12s 3d. The noxt lot, 42 hoggets (real good sorts), made 13s lOd. Mr Bright’s first lot, consisting of 111 ewes with 100 per cent, of lambs, made 11s 9d ; 192 hoggets, paased in ; 75 ewes and 52 lambs 10s sd, 242 hoggets 13s, 59 owes and 37 lambs 12s Bd, 230 hoggets 11s 6d, 32 wethers 15s 9d, 27 fat ewes 15s 2d, 63 ewes and 63 lambs passed in, 88 fat wethers 20s, 27 fat wethers 20s Bd, S 3 hoggets 11s, 27 fat ewes 18a (record), 5 fat ewes 16s 6d, 35 fat ewes 17s Id, 47 fat wethers 19s 6d, 76 forward owes 13s 2d, 20 mixod mutton 17s Id, 76 primo heavy wethers 22s (ioud applause, being a record price for wethers in Poverty Bay), 27 empty ewes 12s Id, 54 forward wethers 16s, 52 fat ewes 17s Bd, 73 wethers 16s 3d, 30 fat hoggets 15s 3d, 42 fat ewes (few wethers) 17s Bd, 116 grand hoggets 15s 6d (record), 22 hoggets 13s 3d, 65 wethers 19s, 64 hoggets 8s Bd, 35 wethers 16s, 28 forward ewes 13s, 18 wethers 15s, 75 empty ewes 10s 33, 139 good hoggets 13s Gd, 9 ewes passed in at 10s 6d, 25 fat ewes passed in at 13s, 14 ewes 8s Id, 23 ewes and 1 wether (fat) 17s, 163 ewes and lambs 10s Id. The few passed lots were nearly all cleared. The sheep sale occupied to the luncheon adjournment. There was a good demand for cattle of all classes, though the bidding at the first was rather slack. Good steers made up to £6 15s, cows £3 15s to £7 15s. Springers sold up to £B. Calves from £2 to £3 7s 6d. Altogether the sale was a most successful one, and Messrs SVyllie and Bright are to be congratulated upon the results.

Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. have received the following cable from London, dated 15th inst.: —“ Sales have opened with a good attendance of buyers and keen competition. Merino and fine cross-bred market shows no change. Cross-bred medium advanced 5 per cent. Crossbred coarse advanced 74 per cent.”
