MR SEDDON AS AN ECONOMIST, By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Received, 5.30 p.m., Sopt. 17 1 Sydney, Sopt. 17. Tho Telegraph, in commending Mr Seddon's proposal for tho curtailment of 1 public expenditure to tho attention of tho New South Wales Government, says that production continues to oxpaud, and Now i Zealand is about the most prosperous of ■ tho Australasiau group, and might moro l safely than most, if no 6 all others, finan- , daily uutioipato the luturo. Instead of i doing that and taking chances, Mr Seddon adops the courso of so trimming his expoudituvo down that tho country can almost live within its income. That is a patriotic courso, inasmuch as it evidences the Premier's steady determination that tho country shall show its ability to live on what it earns, and is commondablo for further roasous that it indicates tho will and capability of tho Government, which hitherto largely followod tho policy of in- ® volving liberal oxpeudituro, to grapple with “ the task and take tho rosponsibilitioß of 3 thrifty administration.
