ANOTHER GRAND RACE. IBEX GETS AWAY AND BEATS CRUCIFORM BY HEAD.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Received 6.12 p.m., Sept. 16. Sydney, Sopt. 16. There was good weather and a large attendance. The results were:— Hurdles.—lslander 11. 1, Pactolus 2, Awahuri 3. Betting, 7 to 2 Islander. Won easily. Time, 6.2. Awahuri pulled up lame.

CRAVEN PLATE. Ibex 1 Cruciform 2 Wakeful 3 Also started, Famous. Betting : 5 to 4 on Wakeful, 2 to 1 Cruciform, 12 to 1 Ibex. The latter beat the starter and led, followed by Famous two lengths away, then Cruciform and Wakeful together. Ibex was the first into the straight, with Cruciform and Famous together, a length away. When the heads turned for home Cruciform put in a decided challenge, which Ibex successfully stalled off, winning by a head, Wakeful two lengths behind Cruciform. Time, 2.75. Suburban Handicap. St. Mars 1, Purser 2, Long Tom 3. Betting, 7 to 2 St. Mars. Won by two lengths. Time, 1.4 J, Grantham Stakes.—Duke of Grafton 1, Sweet Nell 2, Athena 3. Betting, 7 to 4 Duke of Graftou and Sweet Nell. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time, 1.41, Received 7.31 p.m., Sept. 16.

Wycombe Stakes.—Famous 1, Cardigan 2, Cyanide 3. Five started. Betting, 6. to 4 Cyanide, 3 to 1 Famous, 6 to 1 Lord Cardigan. Won by a head. Time, 2.25 J-. Sydney Handicap.— Oblivion I, Fireclay 2, Fanfare Si Sixteen started. Betting, 6 (o 1 Faithful, 7 to 1 Highflyer and Bruntwood, 10 to 1 Oblivion. Won by a length. Time, 2.37. Received, 10.18 p.m., Sept. 16 Sydney, Sept. 16. The enquiry into the running of Weetah during the first two days of the meeting ended in the jockey Stephen Callinen being disqualified for five years, and the horse and owner for two years. Ocean was backed in tho Metropolitan by the owner to win £22,000, Oblivion £16,000, and F.M.S. £13,000. Strange as it may appear, considering the difference of odds, it is alleged that Marvel Loch was a worse horse for the layers than F.M.S. would have been.
