BOROUGH BY-LAWS.

DR VALENTINE AND THE MAS

TERTON COUNCIL,

Per Press Association

Masterton, last night. At the Borough Council to-night the engineer stated he had issued a summons against a person for having put in a cesspit without a permit. The Mayor said the pit had been put in under the instruction and approval or direction of Dr Valentine. If Dr Valentine had power to override tbe by-laws, the Department should take over the whole of the drainage and sanitary work of the borough. At soy rate the case should go to Court as a test.

A motion to rescind the former resolution fixing on the abattoir site on the railway line south of the Waingawai river was negatived by the Borough Council to-night. The Council decided to grant £IOO towards the proposed swimming baths.
