HAWTREY COMEDY COMPANY.
Sir Francis Burnand, the author of “ The Lady of Qstend,” to be produced at the Theatre Royal next Saturday, hasbeen writing plays for very many years,, and it is nearly a quarter of a century since he wrote that clever comedy “ TheColonel.” At that time the acsthetio crazewas at its height, and the piece became quite as popular as the Gilbeat-Sullivan quip on the same subject. “ The Colonel was performed before the late Queen Victoria in 1881, and Mr W. F. Hawtrey was ; one of the east, and jv»B the first profes--sional actor after the death of the PrinceConsort to speak a word in the presence off the Queen, the opening lines of. the play falling to his part. There are few playswhich have obtained . such an astonishing; hold upon the public as 11 A Message from Mars,” which is billed for to-night week, and will be followed on Tuesday evening by ** Tom, Dick, and Harry.” The box plan opens at Mr Miller’s to-morrow' morning at ten. #
