GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS.

(Per Press Association.) Napier, last night. The New Zealand Golf Championship meeting was commenced at the Wakohiki links to-day. Thero was a strong wind blowing in the face of the players, but the greens were in good order and fast. In the first round Wood, Young, K. Duncan, Hutchinson, Harman, A. Duncan, Burt, Nicolaus, Katvhi, Munro, McEwan, C. Gore, H. Fitzherbert, C. Cato, Armstrong, Dimock, G. Gillies, J. C. Bidwell, M. Mason, Darling, Peel, H. Peacock, Tareha, C. D. Kennedy, Gordon,Harold, McGregor, G. Pearson, Hooper, H. O. Smith all won their courses.

In the Hawke’s Bay Championship, first round, A Duncan, Fisher, Stronach, McEwan, C. Gillies, Dr. Reid, Brightwell, Gordon, Harold, Hooper, and Howden made the best scores.

The Championship is expected to be between A. Duncan, C. Gillies, Nicolaus, and Hooper, who are thought to possess the best chances. Play will be continued tomorrow.
