Per Press Association. Stratford, last night. A largely-attended public meeting, addressed by Messrs Maxwell and McLean, members of the Harbor Board, passed resolutions opposing any further borrowing for the extension of the New Plymouth harbor. A branch of the Harbor Defence League was formed. The meeting was enthusiastic, and there were few dissentients. Christchurch, last night. Otto Heerdegen, who had pleaded guilty to eight charges of burglary and theft, was sentenced to-day to two years’ imprisonment. Timaru, last night. At a meeting of the South -Canterbury Executive of the Farmers’ Union at Timaru to-day, the following resolution was passed : “ That immediate steps be taken to form and register as a South Canterbury Industrial Union all agricultural and pastoral employers; that steps be also taken to get members of branches of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union to join the same, which will bo affiliated with the New Zealand Farmers’ Union.”
