At 8 o'clock this morning the wind was south-easterly, .blowing a 7-knot breeze. Thore' vris a smooth soa. Betting was 8 to 2 on the Reliance, freely offered. Tho Shamrock’s roruoasurement, with anchor and chain aboard, does not alter her timo allowance. The Shamrock’s'hull rivets have been tightened. They were started slightly by tho strain in Saturday’s thrash to windward. A triangular course was decided on. Reliance crossed the line 85 seconds ahead in a 5-knot wind. After going 50 minutes she was 700 yards ahead, when the wind strengthening Shamrook getting to windward reduced the lead to a quarter of a mile. The Shamrook pointed higher to-day. A haze obscured the yachts. Relianco still led passing the first mark, and had increased her lead at the second. A south-westerly breeze at this stage livened' matters up, and some spirited leaching took place for tho finish. Sham- »- rock, favored by the breeze, held Reliance splendidly.

ADMITTED SUPERIORITY OF . RELIANCE. 9- - - SIR THOMAS LIPTON’S OPINIONS By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Reoeiyed 1.6 a.m., Aug. 27. Now York, Aug. 26. Prior to the race Shamrock’s underbody was cleaned and re polished. She lost 25seo in being out-manoeuvred in crossing the line. Supporters regretted the lack of a fresh enough wind in the earlier stages. A change of wind in the second leg transformed what was intonded for a reach into a run to Shamrock's advantage. In the close roach homewards there was a mile between the racers, every Bail drawing. Reliance gained on her opponent until a mile from the finish. Then the wind slackened, and reaching jib-topsails wore roplacod by baby jibtopsails. At the half-mile, the wind foreaking Reliance, tho paoo became slower. Shamrock, however, with a good wind off the shore, boomod along, but was defeated by 79sec, reducing the allowance. Sir Thomas Lipton, interviewed, is hopeful of the next raoe. He was more than pleased with tho handling of his vessel. It was hard to admit, but tho best boat won. Mr Iselin statod that no boats were better handled. Reliance proved horselE superior in all weathers and in all conditions.
