Tho point raisod on Monday morning by Sergeant Siddells in the Kaitaratahi Hotel case re one traveller purchasing liquor consumed by another is not a new one. Six years ago in Auckland, in the case Police v. Parker, the licensee of the Railway Terminus Hotol, for Sunday trading, the evidence disclosed that the party served with liquor were travellers. It was further disclosed that one paid for the drinks consumed. Inspector Cullen then raised the argument that it was not legitimate for one person to purchase liquor and be consumed fay another. There are in Auckland at the present time no less than eight theatrical organisations, some playing in the city and others on their way to other centres of the colony on tour. At a rough estimate these companies comprise a membership of over 170. This is said by members of the profession to constitute a record.in theatrical annals, as never before have so many professionals been together in any city in New Zealand. At the Tumberumba Police Court, New South Wales, recently, T. Essell, representing the Amalgamated Miners, sued R. A shooting affray is reported from Boulder Block, West Australia. It appears that the aid of one of the oonstables on duty in that locality was sought to quell a row among tho aboriginals in camp. Says the Sydney Bulletin : “ The thoroughness of M.L football methods is demonstrated by the code of signals to which the team answers. Getting tho hang of these has badly baffled many Australian skippers, for the whole of the side is so well managed that directly the signals are given each man knows exactly what is expected of him. Hence the effectiveness of the combination and the machine-like manner in which it operates. When Australians play on such thorough lines they may have a chance with M.L., but not till then,"
