Per Press Associations CHRISTCHURCH, last night, Tho dispute between the Butchers’ As--1 sociation and the City Council in regard to using the abattoirs is still being maintained. A largo majority of butchers are holding aloof from tho institution, as the freezing companies are not coming in with them The companies maintain that they need not kill at the abattoirs unless thoy chooso to do so, and they arc killing for the butchers at their private abattoirs. The Council, however, is going to take a test case to see if it cannot compel the companies to use its abattoirs in killing moat for local consumption. If the case is decided in favor of tho Council all the butchors will probably use the municipal abattoirs. Mr HaseldeD, S.M., this morning convicted and fined Vernon Rltson (three charges), Frederick Lovelock (three charges), and James Seatree (two charges) for wilful trespass on the Christchurch racecourso resorve. Laid at the instance of tho Canterbury Jockoy Club, the cases woro test ones to ascertain the club’s rights to exclude bookmakers under regulations passed, gazetted and posted. Fines of 20s woro inflicted ou the first charges, and Is on the others. For trespassing on the Metropolitan Club’s grounds John Ross was again convicted, but on assuring the Bench unconditionally that he will rofrain from trespassing on racecourses in the future ho was lot off with a fine of 20s.
