THE DANNEVIRKE AFFAIR
Per Press Association. Dannevirke, last night.
McCluskie was until a month ago employed at the Phoenix mill. He has been out of work since. A quarrel started after dinner between McCluskie and his wife. The daughter returning from work, entered the house and found the quarrel in progress. McOluskio put up a revolver, intending to fire at his wife. The girl rushed between them to savo her mother. McCluskie fired, and the bullet passed through the girl’s fingers and struck her head. He then fired twice at his own head, one bullet entering his skull. The bullet was subsequently extracted. The revolvor wa3 a small electro-plated one of seven chambers, all of which had been loaded.
Later.—MoCluskie was charged with attempted murder thiß morning and remanded to Napier for eight days. MeCluskie'a wound is not dangerous. The girl is making favorablo progress.
