Hatea lost possession near the lino, but Te Boina snapped the ball up and ran back and round, kicking to the West Eud corner, where Nolan just saved in time. From the lineout, Moana went over with half a-dozen black men clinging to him, and a 6-yards scrum was ordered. The Huia forwards gave Cookory the ball from the scrum, and he shot it out to Gibson, the latter Bending it on to Symes, who gave it to Te Boina, and. a capital piece of combined work ended in the latter scoring. Symes’kick at goal was pointless; Huia 3, West End 3. t l
West End, with Williams, Fetorson, Shorriff, and Friday prominent, rushed play to the Huia quarter mark, but Hatea and Blair headed a foofc rush which took the ball back to West End territory. Burns made a good run, and oleared his lino oloverly. Byrnes and Moana put in good work at centre, the burly forward putting in a fine punt which sent the ball out dose to the We3t End corner nag. The besieged shifted play cleverly from their line and rushed it to the centre, whero Sharp, the Huia full-back, allowed a rolling ball to pass between his feet, and the Huia line was /threatened. Hibson started a passing rush by sending the ball to Symes, who transferred to Lear, and tho Huia racehorse looked dangerous till overtaken by Nolan and brought to earth. Nolap gained a lot of ground with a line kick from a mark. ‘ Cookery passed cleverly out to Symes, who put in a high kick to Hepburn, who failed to take the ball, and Te Boina bore down on him, and had a beautiful ohanoe of scoring, but knookod on as he crossed tho line. Eventually Gibson kicked clear, and when Nolan sent ihe boll out at Huia’s 25 mark half-time was sounded. ... West End opened strongly in the second spell, and immediately foroed Huia back on their line, where Wauchop was twice penalised in quick succession for off-side and playing the ball while lying on the ground. From the second penalty Williams landed a beautiful goal for West End, bringing the scores level—West End 6, Huia 6. . , , Hatea and Holmes made a fine daBU down the field, and West End forced. Nolan, however, came with great paoo, and saved a certain score by overtaking Loar and bowling him over. A Huin forward rush ended in West End being forced. West End retaliated with one of the best rushes of the day. They swooped down tho lino, and loft a trail of prostrate Huia men behind them, who vainly tried to atom tho rush. The wholo Weßt End side appeared to bo on the ball, which was rushod right up to tho Huia line where Symes kicked out smartly. Bur’nd made a good opening, but Balneavis failed to take tho pass, and Blair kicked out at centre. Swann and Moana were instrumental in shifting play to Wost End quarters, whore Moana made a big effort to score. Ho was only stopped on the line, and passed back, but no one was handy to take the pass, and West End -ushed the ball to tho other end of the
field. Nolan put in a fine run, which eWed in a fierce fight on Huia a line, but Sharp averted the danger by f °rcing. After some quick work here, *ha ball went out to Symes, who popped it into Te Beina’s hands, and the fast little three-quarter raced over and cleverly groundod tho ball at tho corner, thus Heorin" his second try. Symes made a fine shot at goal, the ball falling under the bar. “ That puts tho result beyond all doubt,” a Kaiti City official pathetically remarked. But such was by no means the case West End played with characteristie dash and determination, and refused to . admit that they wore beaten. A goodrush took the ball wh b ere
some capital passing between yampue.. and Poananga saw Morrissey make a fine sun up the line.
