A distressing accident occurred this morning at the Auckland steam laundry, which resulted in a youDg woman named Elizabeth Tierney having her arm amputated. She had not commenced work, but was standing by the mangle, and placed her fingers between the rollers to ascertain if they were hot. At that moment the machine started and gripped her fingers, and dragged in her arm right np to the elbow. As soon as possible the girl was relieved from her terrible position and sent to the hospital, where it was found necessary to amputate her arm.
