Noumean’news to August 1 states that 88 cases of plague have been reported, 71 proving fatal. The area of infection is spreading. So far the disease has been oonfined to natives.

A tragedy occurred at Kone. A private named Jeandear fatally shot his superior officer, Lieutenant Mathe, and then suicided. The cause is unknown.
