BISHOP WALLIS.

INTERVIEWED AT BRISBANE.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Received 11.24 p.m,, Aug. 17. Brisbane, Aug, 17.

Bishop Wallis, o£ Wellington, is a passenger by the Miowera. Interviewed, he stated that he had spent a good deal of time in London. He had interviews with a numbor of big men, including Mr Balfour, and got what he wanted—money and men for church work in various parts of New Zealand. The question occupying much attention in England was education in State schools. Personally, he considered the Education Bill very fair. Many people misconstrued it. They considered schools were ■ to be given over to the Church. This was wrong. They were to keep Church schools as at present, and establish Bible reading in State schools. In reference to Mr Chamberlain's tariff proposals, Bishop Wallis thinks they will pass but not in the immediate future. He leaves Sydney for New Zealand by the Moeraki on Saturday.
