The Federal Executive has authorised the purchase of eight million rounds of cartridges from the Colonial Ammunition Company. Victorian members succeeded in. getting that for Victoria thrown out, but the debate on that for New South Wales was adjourned Objection was taken on the ground that the drought had driven a large number of people into the cities who as the season improves will return, and it would be a great injustice to the country to alter the arrangement of voting power just now. The .Opposition accused the Government of jerrymandering to save some of the protectionist States. SYDNEY,- Aug. 15.
The fire on the Earl of Dunmore lias been extinguished. The work of pumping out commenced to-day.
