EARTHQUAKE FATALITIES. BUENOS AYRES, Aug. 13. An earthquake at Mendoza killed five persons and ruined many houses. SURPLUS FROM TAXATION.

ADELAIDE, Aug. 14. .The Treasurer’s statement showed a small surplus, due, however, to additional taxation, and not to increased revenue. The harvest, while good, is a disappointing one. High prices have been phenomenal. The outlook for the next harvest is excellent. The revenue for the year :Was £2,483,000, and the expenditure £2,479,000. The estimated revenue for the current year is £2,498,000, and the expenditure £2,479,000.
