By Telegraph—Pres3 Association—Copyright Received 11.4 p.m., August 10. Rome, Aug. 10. Fifty thousand invited filled the Basilica before the ceremony commenced, and there were many thousands outside. The entire diplomatic body, the Italian aristocracy, and many ladies were present. Mr Thomas Esmonde, representing the Irish parliamentarians, was present. The ceremony occupied many hours. The Pope, arrayed in tho pontifical robes, with the mitre on his head, and accompanied by tho cardinals, seated himself on tho throne in the portico of the Basilica. Cardinal Rampolla delivered a speech of homage. His Holiness was then borne aloft on the sfldia gestatoria; surrounded by tho fiabilli, and preceded by dignitaries and cardinals, he entered the Basilica, amidst a flourish of silver trumpets and acclamations from tho vast congregation, the Pontifical Guard rendering military honors. After signing for silence, the Pope pronounced tho Benediction. He was next carried to tho Clementine Chapel, one of tho Pontifical Ceremonieri walking in advance and burning three pieces of tow, exclaiming, “ Holy Father in transit gloria mnndi.” The Pope, seatod on the throne, received the act of obedience, the cardinals kissing his feet and fabo, the bishops his foot and knee, and lesser dignitaries kissing his foot only. Mass was celebrated. At tho moment of elevation tho silver trumpots resounded from the top of tho cupola coops, the people kneoling. The Pope was then borne to the pondium before the altar of confession, where Cardinal Macehi removed the mitre, replacing it with a jewellod tiara, and pronounced the enthronisation. The Pope exhibited deep emotion. He blessed tho congregation in a loud, clear voice. There was a burst of enthusiasm and acclamation. Much fatigued, the Pope returned to the Vatican in a sedan chair.
