PRICE OF TIMBER.
RAiSED BY AUCKLAND MILLOWNERS,
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND,, last night, The Auckland mill owners have decided to raise the price of firstclass and rough heart timber by one shilling, and medium and secondclass timber by sixpence per hundred The discount to builders will remain at ten per cent, on accounts paid within a montu, and 7-t per cent on accounts running beyond that time.
The cash discount to ordinary customers has been reduced from five to two and a hall per cent.
The mill-owners state that the rise in price has been forced on them by the heavy increases in premiums charged hy, the ‘accident insurance companies for covering risks under the Workers Compensation Act. Several millers have agreed not to renew their policies, but to ‘pay ‘the premiums into a fund of their own to meet claims whicn may arise. They state that if ‘the saving therebj anticipated is realised, prices of timber may be reconsidered with a viey?, to reduction.
