FOOTBALL.

TOLAGO V. WAJPJ.RO.

The Waiapu Rugby Union’s competi tion was continued last Saturday, when ] the above teams met at Tolago Bay. There was a good attendance of spectators, upwards of 250 beiDg present, which nothiog but football could bring together. The game was fast from the commencement, but the splendid passing of the Tolago backs, M. Murphy, G. Reynolds, and Rangi completely outclassed the visitors. It was the finest exhibition given on the Coast. Hames in splendid form, and gave as good a display of football as when he represented Hawse’s Bay. tho losers J. N. Williams was the centre of admiration for his fine driDbling rushes, and battled hard for bis team, Tamepo, Warren, Johnstone, and Tuckwell were also conspicuous amongst the forwards, and Duff was the pick of tho backs division. Tho game resulted, Tolago 24 (8 tries) to nil, and was played in a most friendly spirit Mr W. S. McCrodie acted as referee, and gave every satisfaction. Both teams pighly appreciated his prompt and accu «4ia decisions, and expressed the hope- « would not be the lest time they

would see him as referee on the Coast, Messrs C. T. Rotaka and D. Tamararo officiated as line umpires.

NORTH V. SOUTH. On Saturday a combined team from Tolago and Tokomaru will play Waipiro and Tuparoa at Tokomaru, which should be a very interesting game. A representative fifteen will be picked from the players to represent the Coast against Poverty Bay. Mr K. S. Williams is sole solector, and judging by his all-round capacity at sport, everyone may bo certain that he will pick a strong combination, and the people of Poverty Bay may rely on seeing a first-class match.
