Christchurch, last night. A solemn Requiem Mass for the roposo of tho soul of tho Pope was celebrated at . tho pro-Cathedral at 10 o’clock. There was a very largo cougrogation. Almost all the clergy of tho diocoso wore presont. In tho absonco of Bishop Grimos on tho West Coast the Very Rov. Fathor C. Menant dos Chesnais celebrated Mass, tho doacon being the Rov. Fathor O’Donnell (Ashburton) ; sub-deacon, Very Rev Father Tubman (Timaru). Doan Bowers (Geraldiuo)
was mastor of oeromonios. Tlio Gregoriao chants were sung by chantors, who wore ♦ Fathers Richards and O’Coune)). The ceremony was moßt impressive. The Rev. Father McDonnell preachod, and delivered an eloquent sermon dealing with the life of the lato Pope, oulogising his many great qualities. Tho dead March in Saul was played at tho close of the service,

Bishop Vordou celebrated tho Mass, having assistance as priest of Mansignor O'Loary, of Lawrenco; deacon, Fathor DeLeaney; sub deacon, Father Howard.; master of coremonios, Father Murph/. REQUIEM MASS AT WELLINGTON ATTENDED BY PREMIER AND MINISTERS. .(Per Press Association.} Wellington, last night. Solemn Pontifical Requiem Mass for the repose of the soul of tho late Pontiff was celebrated this morning at tho Sacred Basilica, Hill street. Included in tho congregation wero the Chief Justice, Premier, Sir Joseph Ward, several members of both branches of the Legislature, and two officers and a number of men from the warship Phoebe. The interior of the Basilica was draped in black, relieved by the silver lettering of many texts and inscriptions. Just in front of the Sanctuary steps stood the Catafalque, draped in purplo, hordered with red, upon it being the Papal tiara, resting on a scarlet cushion. Arohbiehop Redwood was the celebrant, and he was assisted by a large number of visiting clergy. During the service tho Archbishop delivered a panegyric on tho lifo of the late Pope.
