The Marylebone Club has published the following olficial statement : “ We selected Warner as captain from the first, and have in no way since qualified that selection. We offered amateurs all expenses, and professionals all expenses (including washing) £3OO, and a bonus if tile tour were a financial success, the Club not wishing to make a profit. “ The following have accepted the offer : Warner, P’oster, Bosanquet, 1-hrst, Rhodes, llayward, and Strudwick. “We are awaiting replies from : Fry, Arnold, Braund, Lilley, Fielder, Keif, and Tyldesley. “ The following have declined : Jackson, Maclarcn, Jessop, Martyn, L. Palairet, and Dowson.” The statement adds : “It is impossible for the team to start before tha 2atli of September." The Daily Mail considers it a weak team, and describes it as a Marylebone and Ground one, and not one representing England. The Sportsman declares that without Jackson, Jessop, and Maclaren, the team is hardly representative.
