Sir,—lt is difficult to understand “ Traveller’s ” reasoning in connection with our local railway extension, which will ultimately connect with the other lines in the oolony. The important developments that will take place outside the timber industry will necessitate some better mode of transit than the bad roads now prevailing, and the sailing ship as compared with leviathan steamera will meet our case admirably for the next 50 years. He might just as well argue that we should not make roads because some genius has invented a flying machine, and we should wait until they are available. The line should be pushed through to connect with the other lines of the colony, and in its route it will tap one of the most prolific and fertile tracts of laud in the colony. Narrow gauge lines can be more cheaply made than roads te act as feeders right and left of the principal lines, and unless this is dono to assist in developing onr Resources there will be nothing for these magnificent steamers to do, and their occupation will be gone ; not because they have become obsolete as against other methods, but because we have not risen to the occasion and gathered the fruits of the earth and developed them in the most practical way, and used the most economical means to that end. Get the railway to the Motu, and all other things will follow. —I am, etc., Another Traveller. Because he claims the power to work miracles, an Ohio congregation has dismissed its -pastor.
