SERIOUS ILLNESS OF CHIEF CANDIDATE. By, Telegraph—Press AssociationCopyright. ROME, July. 23. The lying in state of the body of the Pope has commenced. Fifteen thousand persons defiled before the body between C and 8 in the morning. His Holiness bequeathed the whole of his estate to the Church after providing for his relatives lor lifetime. Cardinal Orgelia, the chief candidate for the Papacy, has been taken seriously ill.
CIRCULAR TO CLERGY
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. Archbishop Redwood, in a circular letter to the clergy of his aroh-dio-cese, enjoins that besides high mass of ‘requiem, one or more requiem masses be said in every church and chapel ; that lor, nine days after receipt of the letter the De Profundis he said in English after every mass, that divine protection and guidance upon the conclave in the election of a successor to Pope Leo XIII. be implored, and that a solemn Pontifical high mass of requiem be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church, at Wellington, on Tuesday.,
