FINING A LEPER,
(Per Press Association.) __ WELLINGTON, last night. . rw ° Chinamen, charged with having opium for smoking in their possession, were fined this) morning £2O each, with costs. One of the defendants is a leper, now in quarantine. THE SUSPICIOUS SICKNESS. Health Department states iwiat the suspicious case of sickness on .the Talune at Lyttelton turns, out not, to bo of a serious or infect-1 ious character. AN APPEAL CASE.
-I he Appeal Court was to-day 'dealing with the application of the •Coau and Mercantile Agency Comto rescind the order allowing Mitchell to appeal from the judgment of the Supreme Court in forma j pauperis. Mr Bell, in support of [the motion, contended that appellant; could not obtain leave without paying costs on the first order, since abandoned through inability to comply with the conditions as to time. I A settlement out ol Court was arranged, leave being given to appeal in forma pauperis, on, condition that appellant’gives up his house and land 'to E. d. Johnston by. August 13th next.
