HARBOR BOARDS’ ASSOCIATION

Per Press Association.; WELLINGTON, last night. At a meeting of the Wellington Harbor Board to-day, it was resolved that a letter be sent to all harbor boards in New Zealand, suggesting that a Harbor Boards’ Association be formed on the lines of the Municipal Associations, to enable mutual matters of interest and of policy to be discussed, and to provide for concerted action being taken in any matters affecting harborboerds.

A deputation of members of the House waited on Sir Joseph Ward to-day, in regard to the Railway Superannuation Act, to ask that a -break in the period of service should not act as a -disqualification to any employee wishing join the fund. Sir Joseph Ward "replied that if the request were complied with it would mean £12,000 to the fund, which would practically-.cripple it, and it would have to be repealed. The whole basis of the scheme, which was the same as that in other Departments, would have to be changed if broken time were counted. The thing was impossible. He would, however, consider the case of those men who were thrown out of work by the maritime strike. AN. OLD MAN’S DEATH. WANGANUI, last night, James Rogers, 68 years of age, a widower, was found dead this after-, noon. He had recently complained of ili-health. He dropped dead while placing goods on a sledge. He has a step-daughter resident at Lyttelton, and one or two relatives -here- He was an old soldier and recipient of an Imperial pension.
