to Times.) Waipiro, last night. The ordinary meeting of the Waiapu County Council was held at the Council Chambers, Waipiro, yesterday, there being present: Messrs T. E. Sherwood (in the chair), A. Knox, E. H. Henderson, T. S. Williams, A. B. Williams, E. B. Murphy, and A. H. Wallis. Cr Murphy took his seat for the first time, and was warmly welcomed by tho Chairman. Mr A. T. Ngata wrote asking the Council to close the old Kakariki road, and offered to place gates'at suitable places to allow travellers to use it when the Waiapu river was in flood.—lt was decided to take steps to close the road. The Treasury applied for half-year’s interest on the loan, £302 14s Id. Beoeived.
The Dept. of Lands and Survey notified that the scheme for expending the thirds and fourths was approved. The Engineer reported that fair progress was being made with all contracts. On the motion of Mr Honderson, seconded by Or A. B. Williams, it was decided to survey the track from Makarika to Paekawa. It was resolved that steps bo taken to vest the To Horo stock paddock in tho Council. On the proposition of Or Wallis, seconded by Cr T. S. Williams, it was decided to cull tendors for work on the crossings on tho Mukarika road. . It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Wallis, to oreot finger posts where the Pawariki road joins the main road. Cr Wallis proposed, and Cr Murphy secondod, that the approaches to some of the small bridges on the Hikuwai river ho metalled. The Engineer was instructed to repair the Mangahawini and Waitaupu roads where necessary. „ It was proposed by Cr A. B. Williams that the Government be urged to carry out the survey of the Puketiti-Pahii road. This was seconded by Cr Wallis and carried. It was resolved that a general rate of Id in tho £ on land in the occupation of Europeans, ,4ud on land occupied by Maoris, bo struck for the ensuing year. Accounts amounting, to £605 17s 7d were passed for payment, the ohief items being Itaere and Co. £216, Colonial Treasurer £BO2 14s Id, Bichards and Byan £3445. ' ■!*•' ‘ • ■ A speoial meeting was held subsequently to receive the balance-sheet, which was adopted on iho proposition of Or Wallis seooudod by Cr A. B. Willliams. The Treasurer read an exhaustive statement on the alterations of the various . accounts for the year and on the financial ‘ position. '
