DEATH OF THE POPE.

The news of the Pope’s death reached Cardinal Moran just before embarking on the Oroya. He was deeply affected. The newspapers contain appreciative articles on the Pope. The GovernorGeneral and Governor of New South Wales sent messages of condolence with Archbishop Kelly.

King Edward and the Emperors of Austria and Germany have expressed sympathy with the Vatican on tbe death of the Pope. A ceaseless stream of visitors is passing through the tapestry room, where the body is lying. Dr Lapponi embalmed the body. It is expected that the Conolave to eleot tho Pope’s successor, will meet in Rome on the 31st, all the Cardinals, exoept Cardinal Moran, attending. Monsignor Merry Dolval has been appointed Secretary of tbe Conclave.
